Permanent repairs on Lantzville sinkhole scheduled for summer months
NANAIMO — Designs are being finalized for permanent repairs to a sinkhole on Hwy. 19.
After an atmospheric river dumped a month’s worth of rain on the region over the course of a couple of days, a sinkhole opened on Hwy. 19, just north of Nanaimo on Nov. 18, leading to commutes of several hours long between Nanaimo and Parksville that day.
In a statement to NanaimoNewsNOW, the ministry of transportation outlined permanent repairs to the sinkhole are scheduled to start in June.
“The first stage of construction, installing a new permanent culvert under the affected area, will only require night work and one lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained during this time,” the statement read.
