Olivia Rodrigo’s new film all but confirms that Sour was inspired by her breakup with Joshua Bassett when she said she was forced to see the person who broke her heart every day after the split.
When Driving Home 2 U dropped on Disney+ Friday (March 25th), the “drivers license” singer called the still unconfirmed relationship and breakup with her High School Musical: The Musical: The Show costar the “heartbreak that kept on giving.”
She added, “I was in this situation where I had to see him… he was with someone else which was devastating to me. It felt like my world was ending every single day.”

- Olivia Rodrigo met Sour producer Dan Nigro after uploading an early version of “happier” online.
- The original lyrics to ‘drivers license” referenced a brunette girl instead of a blond in the line, “You’re probably with that blonde girl, the one I always thought about/She’s so much older than me, she’s everything I’m insecure about.”
- “Brutal” was only added to Sour five days before the final track list was submitted to her record label.
- Rodrigo was pretty insecure about the release of her debut album and second guessed several decisions, such as the inclusion of “enough for you” about which she told Nigro, It’s just like every other song on the record, just different words.”
- The unreleased song from Sour that ends the film includes the lyrics: “But when I say I’m fine, I’m lying really well/ Cause I can’t love anyone else/ And I’m so jealous that you can/ Scared I’ll never feel that again/ Cause I still can’t call anyone baby/ Because baby is still you to me/ Don’t you think I wanna move on too?/ But I can’t love anyone the way that I loved you.”
