KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers’ dream of sweeping a six game series over three weekends was dashed as they lost to the Kelowna Rockets Saturday (March 26). The Blazers lost 5-3.

Quinn Schmiemann opened the scoring for the Blazers at six minutes in with an assist from Caden Bankier. This was the seventh consecutive game between the two that the Blazers scored first.

In the second, the Rockets applied the pressure, starting with a goal from Colton Dach.

This goal ended a shutout streak for Blazer goalie Dylan Garand. He didn’t let a single goal in for the preceding 183 minutes and 14 seconds of play.

The Rockets got another goal from Pavel Novak. It was Novak’s first career goal against the Blazers.

Adam Kydd scored next at 13 minutes into the second. Then Dach made it 4-1 with two minutes left in the second.

The Blazers lit a fire under their behinds heading into the third and got a goal less than a minute in on the power play from Logan Stankoven. At eight minutes the Blazers got within one with a long range goal from Kaden Hammell.

Kamloops pulled their goalie with a minute and a half left in the game, but unfortunately for them Dach made a hat trick on the empty net, bringing the final score to 5-3 for the Rockets.

The Blazers stand at 44-15-2-0 and are good for 90 points in 61 games. Next up, they host Prince George on Wednesday (March 30).
