LILLOOET, B.C. — Lillooet RCMP say two people died after their vehicle reportedly gone off road down a 100-metre embankment into Carpenter Lake Monday (March 21) evening.

Police say friends that were following in a separate vehicle along Highway 40 stated they observed the front vehicle pulling to the right and went too far, causing it to roll over the edge of the road.

RCMP say the witnesses went down the embankment on foot and were able to pull one person from the water but were unable to revive them. A second occupant was unable to be recovered from the vehicle that day.

BC Ambulance, Lillooet RCMP, and Lillooet Rescue all attended the next day. Police say the underwater recovery team recovered the remaining person, and the vehicle was towed out of the lake.
