‘Give back to the community’: Kamloops U11 Blazers finalist for the Good Deeds Cup
KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops U11 Blazers are the B.C. representatives in the 2022 Chevrolet Good Deeds Cup.
The team won $2,000 for their charity of choice, People in Motion, after donating as much used hockey gear as they could receive to KidSport Kamloops.
Head Coach Jeff Jakel says the Good Deeds Cup’s challenge was to make hockey more accessible and inclusive, whether it be based on gender, race or socioeconomic issues. He was happy to see his team find out they were the B.C. representatives during Saturday’s Hockey Night in Canada broadcast.
“People sign up their kids for hockey because they want to have some fun, develop their skills and be part of a team. The idea of youth sports is to create good people and give back to the community. Being able to do something like this off the ice has been just as important and rewarding to the kids,” Jakel says.
