Kamloops council defeats move to address Sagebrush streetlight complaints

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops council won’t take special action to mediate a neighbourhood’s complaints about new, bright streetlights.

Members of the Sagebrush Neighbourhood Association don’t like new 75-watt lights B.C. Hydro is installing throughout the city.

“We’re not against LED lights or anything like that; we just want to try to maintain a pleasant and livable environment,” Chris Ortner of the Sagebrush Neighbourhood Association told council at Tuesday’s regular meeting.

Councillor Denis Walsh moved to set up a special meeting with B.C Hydro officials and put a temporary stop to installing the new lights.

“There’s been no communication plan that I’ve heard of or know of,” said Walsh. “I think we allocated that to B.C. Hydro to deal with but however they dealt with it apparently wasn’t sufficient for the residents.”
