Blazers win 4-3 in shootout against Kelowna Rockets

Mar 13, 2022 | 10:15 AM

The Kamloops Blazers won after 12 rounds of shootout against the Kelowna Rockets Saturday (March 12) at Prospera Place in Kelowna.

Five minutes into the first period, Daylan Kuefler opened the scoring with a goal assisted by Quinn Schmiemann and Fraser Minten.

Three minutes later, the crowd saw double as the same trio earned a second point against the Rockets — Kuefler assisted by Schmiemann and Minten.

In the second period, the Rockets put on the pressure and got within one, with Andrew Cristall scoring a point on the power play.

Just about halfway through the third period, Kuefler got his hat trick, assisted this time by Minten and Logan Stankoven.

Rocket Colton Dach got within one at 13 minutes into the third.

The Blazers couldn’t keep the Rockets away as the Rockets brought the score to 3-3 with six minutes to go in the third period, and the game went into overtime.

Neither team could win in overtime so the game went to shootout — 12 rounds, in fact. Drew Englot ended up winning it for the Blazers.

The Blazers are now at 41-14-2-0 and are good for 84 points in 57 games. Next up, they battle Kelowna again on the road on Friday (March 18).
