KAMLOOPS — Live theatre is back in town at the Pavilion Theatre.

Running from Mar. 8 to Mar. 13, A Broad’s Way Festival: Celebrating International Women’s Day brings together talented Kamloops performers for a festival celebrating women.

Producer Terri Runnalls wanted to highlight strong female voices in this mixed-media festival.

“In times like this, when we look to people for warmth, comfort [and] support, I think women are those people. And I think we’ve always been those people, the mothers, not just of children but of the community,” said Runnalls.

“Hearing their voices at this time — always on International Women’s Day of course — but at this time with what we’re going through and what we’ve been through, I think it’s really important that we’re hearing these strong female voices,” she said.

Tuesday and Wednesday night, audiences will watch Push Up Bar, a theatre piece devised by local artists. They call it a mosaic in motion.

On the weekend, there will be a cabaret featuring a variety of local emerging and established artists.

“There’s song, there’s dance, there’s some theatrical pieces, there’s some instruments, like a variety show!”

There will also be a new play workshop on the weekend and a online discussion with “remarkable local women of various ages and specialties” inspired by the theme of this years IWD, Break the Bias.

Tickets are on sale now.
