Kúkpi7 Casimir to discuss upcoming Vatican visit with Tk’emlúps band members
KAMLOOPS — Kúkpi7 Rosanne Casimir will hold a discussion with Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc (TteS) band members to discuss her upcoming delegation to the Vatican.
TteS says band members are asked to come to Moccasin Square Garden on Thursday (March 10) at 6:00 p.m. with an open mind, and suggestions and comments. TteS adds there will be mental and emotional supports available during the meeting. Vaccine cards and valid identification are required for entry.
Casimir will represent the BC Assembly of First Nations in a delegation of 13 Indigenous leaders that will visit the Vatican at the end of March. While the group will get an hour to meet with Pope Francis, Casimir will have an opportunity for a one-on-one meeting with the head of the Catholic Church during the visit.
The delegation is meant to address the confirmation of the thousands of possible gravesites confirmed at former residential school sites across Canada. On May 27, 2021, Casimir revealed the findings of a radar search of the former residential school site on the Tk’emlups Reserve discovered more than 200 possible gravesites. That knowledge has carried with it a significant weight of emotion, which she plans to carry with her to the Vatican.
