Kamloops RCMP renew call for information into killing of Sa-Hali Secondary student

Mar 7, 2022 | 4:02 PM

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP are renewing calls for information following the killing of a local high school student more than a month ago.

Around 8:00 a.m Jan. 29, police were called to a parking lot off Chilcotin Road by the St. Joseph’s Church on Tk’emlups reserve land, where paramedics had found the body of 18-year-old Jagraj Dhinsa. Dhinsa was a Grade 12 student at Sa-Hali Secondary School.

Police say he had received ‘obvious injuries’.

“The cause of death will not be released at this time, due to the ongoing investigation,” says Cst. Crystal Evelyn.

Evidence at the scene linked Dhinsa to a black, 2014 Honda Accord found on Dallas Drive near LaFarge Road. In the days that followed, investigators urged anyone with information or who had been in contact with Dhinsa on Jan. 28 or 29, to contact police.

While the initial police presence has been cleared from the scene, Evelyn adds that the RCMP investigation is ongoing.

“There’s lots that goes into analyzing evidence, collecting more evidence, to talking to more people — so there is so much work that is going on. Just because the public doesn’t see that work going on doesn’t mean that it’s not happening.”

RCMP are appealing to the public for any information that could be helpful in their investigation.

“If anybody does have any information that could be of assistance, even if you’re not sure, even if you’re sitting and hemming and hawing and wondering if maybe this is related, then please don’t hesitate to reach out,” says Evelyn, “The worst case, it gets investigated and it’s not helpful. The best case is, it is helpful. So please do make the effort to pick up that phone and call that tip line.”

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact the Southeast District’s Major Crime Unit tip line at 1-877-987-8477.
