Kamloops Fire Rescue battles large landscape fire, warns public of dry climate
KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Fire Rescue spent 90 minutes knocking down a landscape fire near Seymour Street West Monday (March 7) morning.
Platoon Captain Darryl Cooper says crews responded at 5:00 a.m. where flames were nearly seven feet high while burning in old lawn debris and branches. He says crews will likely head back later Monday to investigate and ensure nothing is smoldering, but the early belief is the fire wasn’t lit maliciously.
“It may seem a little bit early, but things are drying out there and it’s time to start thinking about being careful with combustibles around grassy areas and landscape stuff,” Cooper says. “It’s surprising how quickly it dries out around here and a fire can start pretty quickly.”
Cooper adds the fire didn’t spread to any structures and no one was injured.
