WolfPack women’s basketball team eliminated from playoffs, fall to Mount Royal 75-54

KAMLOOPS — The season is over for both Thompson Rivers University (TRU) WolfPack basketball teams.

The women’s WolfPack fell to Mount Royal 75-54 in the first round of the Canada West playoffs Friday (March 4) night. TRU held a 19-13 lead after the first quarter, but were outscored 62-35 the rest of the way, including a 22-8 third quarter for Mount Royal. Kyla Smith led the WolfPack in scoring with 10 points while shooting three-for-nine from the field.

The men were previously eliminated in the first round on Thursday (March 3) with an 80-75 loss to Mount Royal. TRU trailed 45-28 at the half but were unable to complete the comeback. Asher Mayan led the WolfPack with 27 points and 10 rebounds in the defeat.

The Canada West basketball playoffs conclude by the end of the weekend. The Canada West semifinal and final takes place between March 18 and 19.
