Dinner fundraiser being held to help assist Kamloops-bound refugees

KAMLOOPS — A group that has assisted in getting refugee individuals and families settled in Kamloops is holding a fundraiser as an influx could be arriving soon.

Refugees and Friends Together (RAFT) is holding a take home dinner fundraiser at the Colombo Lodge.

The fundraiser comes after Immigration Minister Sean Fraser said in January that the federal government will get back on track by year’s end after the COVID-19 pandemic caused a major backlog in processing immigration applications. The government last year announced it would spend $85 million to plow through the backlogged applications, which Fraser says will be used mainly to hire more staff.

RAFT’s dinner fundraiser at the Colombo Lodge takes place March 16. More information is available online.
