Blazers beat rival Rockets 6-2

KAMLOOPS — After seven straight head-to-head losses, the Kamloops Blazers finally beat their rival Kelowna Rockets in the 2021-22 Western Hockey League (WHL) season with a 6-2 win at the Sandman Centre Saturday (Feb. 26) night.

Luke Toporowski scored his first of three goals with a wrist shot high in the slot to open the scoring for Kamloops. He scored his second goal by cutting in front with a wrist shot 36 seconds into the second period to extend the lead to 2-0, before the Rockets would tie it 2-2 with two goals in under four minutes. However, Daylan Kuefler tipped in a Toporowski slap shot to give the Blazers a 3-2 lead late in the second.

Kamloops never looked back, scoring three goals in the third to blow the game open.

The Blazers improve to 36-14-2 on the 2021-22 WHL season, good for 74 points in 52 games. Kamloops is second in the Western Conference and first in the B.C. Division. Next up is a game Wednesday (March 2) against the Spokane Chiefs. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. from the Sandman Centre.
