KAMLOOPS – Approximately 300 people marched in the streets of Kamloops Saturday afternoon (Feb. 26) to demonstrate their support for the citizens of Ukraine.

The group gathered at Riverside Park where speakers called for Russia to respect the sovereignty of Ukraine and halt the invasion of the country.

“It’s extremely important to see people supporting freedom, supporting peace, supporting truth, supporting people, standing with Ukraine,” said rally participant Oleksandr Sasha Kondrashov.

Canadians can support humanitarian efforts in Ukraine by donating funds to the Ukrainian Canadian Foundation. The federal government will match donations dollar for dollar.

Following a series of speeches, the group marched down Lansdowne Street and eventually back into Riverside Park.

The Kamloops demonstration is one in a series of demonstrations in cities across Canada since Vladimir Putin ordered Russian forces to enter Ukraine earlier in the week.
