Bouchie Lake celebrates refreshed community rink
QUESNEL, B.C. — The community of Bouchie Lake officially celebrated a refreshed recreational asset with a ribbon cutting on Feb. 19 following upgrades.
The Cariboo Regional District says the Bouchie Lake Recreation Commission decided to upgrade the rink in 2021 after year-round demand from numerous user groups. The rink – that was created over two decades ago with the help from Bouchie Lake Volunteer Fire Fighters – is used regularly for ice skating, hockey, basketball, and pickleball by all age groups.
The district says improvements such as lighting had already been done, but there was an immediate need to weatherproof, rebuild, and construct new areas of the rink to improve access and year-round safety.
“These improvements were realized with the help of dedicated community volunteers and the financial support of $30,000 from the Northern Development Initiative Trust’s ‘Community Places’ grant and $35,000 contributing funds from the North Cariboo Sub-Regional Recreation Capital Plan, Marco Wagner, Cariboo Regional District chair says. “Once the project is completed, this rural community will have a safe, accessible and easy-to-maintain facility with recreation opportunities for all ages.”
