Blazers can’t hang on to lead, fall to Giants 4-3 in overtime
KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers picked up a point but let an extra one slip through their grip in a 3-2 overtime home loss to the Vancouver Giants Saturday (Feb. 19).
Two goals – Logan Stankoven putting back his own rebound and a deflection off the end boards from Luke Toporowski – put the Blazers up 2-0 after two periods. Giants goaltender Jesper Vikman made 32 saves through 40 minutes to keep his team in it.
The Giants responded with three goals in less than six minutes near the start of the third period, putting the Blazers behind 3-2. Matthew Seminoff scored a power play goal net front to tie the game 3-3 and ensure the Blazers got to overtime.
However, Fabian Lysell got behind the Blazers blueline and scored the winner for the Giants on a breakaway with 27 seconds remaining in overtime. It’s only Kamloops’ second overtime loss in the 2021-22 Western Hockey League (WHL) season.
