One dead in Lillooet house fire

LILLOOET, B.C. — RCMP in Lillooet confirm one person has died in a house fire there.

The blaze began at a home in the area of Texas Creek Road and Mitchell Road on Wednesday evening (Feb. 16) and firefighters fought it through the night and into Thursday morning.

The remains of one person were found Thursday and the B.C. Coroners Service was called to assist in the investigation.

While the victim has been ‘tentatively identified’, RCMP say the identity and cause of death will be confirmed through an autopsy.

“The outcome of this incident is incredibly tragic. We extend our sincerest condolences to the family of the deceased during this incredibly difficult time,” said Cst. Andrew Hodges of Lillooet RCMP. “Our thoughts are also with our first responder family and others impacted by this tragedy.”
