KAMLOOPS — After not capitalizing on an opportunity against the lower ranked Tri-City Americans on Wednesday (Feb. 9), the Kamloops Blazers did not let their second chance on Friday slip through their grip.

The Blazers opened the first period with four goals – three in 4:21 – with Luke Toporowski continuing his strong start with Kamloops by scoring two goals, one on a rebound and another deflecting off the cross bar and in. Fellow trade deadline acquisition Drew Englot deflected a puck over the Tri-City goaltender, while co-captain Logan Stankoven added a rebound goal on the power play.

Kamloops went into cruise control for the final 40 minutes, eventually winning 6-1.

The Blazers improve to 32-12-1 on the 2021-22 Western Hockey League season, good for 65 points in 45 games. Kamloops is second in the Western Conference and first in the B.C. Division.

Kamloops heads south of the border to visit the Everett Silvertips on Saturday (Feb. 12) at 6 p.m.
