Merritt council approves early capital project at Nicola Valley Memorial Arena
MERRITT, B.C. — The City of Merritt relies on a 19-year-old condensing tower to create the ice surfaces at the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena and the curling rink.
City Staff had identified the project and planned to replace it in 2023, however additional leaks have been found, resulting in a more urgent need.
“In 2021, leaks were identified with the condenser and substantial repairs were made. The condenser continues to experience internal leaking and is at risk of failure. Staff is recommending a full replacement of the condenser tower at this time given we have exhausted all other repair options,” said Director of Finance Wayne Anderson.
The estimated cost of the project is $175,000.
