Fatal overdoses on the rise in Kamloops; Interior Health issues drug alert

KAMLOOPS — Interior Health has issued a general overdose alert for Kamloops, saying “fatal poisonings (overdoses) are increasing” in the area.

The alert, issued Thursday (Feb. 10), notes some of the overdoses involve victims using a pink substance.

The drugs that are leading to these poisonings contain high amounts of fentanyl and benzodiazepines, which are resistant to naloxone.

IH says any residents who use drugs should be wary and take precautions, such as using with other or at an overdose prevention site.
