KAMLOOPS — ASK Wellness’ 37-unit seniors housing complex, honouring one of its greatest supporters Cookie Reimer, officially opened on Tuesday (Feb. 1).

Ground broke for Cookie’s Place in August, 2020. Now the four-story building at 1260 Hillside Ct. will provide 37 one-bedroom units for seniors with rent ranging from $375 to $900, depending on tenant income.

“We are extremely excited for what this new housing will provide to the City of Kamloops, in particular for seniors who have found it challenging to find safe and affordable housing,” ASK Wellness Society CEO Bob Hughes says. “After nearly 30 years in operation, we have seen the growing gap in accessible housing for seniors. With Cookie’s Place, we are narrowing that gap and honouring the needs of our local aging population.”

Cookie Reimer has volunteered with ASK Wellness since its humble beginnings in 1992, with her contributions including raising more than $300,000 to support people living with, or affected, by HIV/AIDS.

Cookie’s Place will be owned and operated by ASK Wellness, which is adjacent to its support, recovery and career development program facility Maverick Manor. BC Housing provided $3.9 million for the project and $220,000 in annual operating funding, while ASK Wellness provided the land valued at $817,000.
