Man charged after allegedly stealing identification and thousands of dollars from Merritt restaurant

MERRITT, B.C. — A man has been charged with theft under $5,000 and unauthorized use of a credit card after a reported theft Sept. 1, 2021.
RCMP say the man allegedly walked into a restaurant on Nicola Avenue in Merritt after hours and stole a backpack containing thousands of dollars, personal identification and debit and credit cards.
Merritt RCMP say officers identified the man through video surveillance arrested him while he was in possession of the stolen backpack.
The man was charged Jan. 25, 2022 and the matter is before the court.
