B.C. enters the weekend on the verge of 1,000 COVID-19 hospitalizations

VICTORIA — B.C. is on the precipice of having 1,000 hospitalizations due to COVID-19.

In its latest news release issued Friday afternoon (Jan. 28), the Ministry of Health reports 990 people in hospital with the virus, an increase of 13 from Thursday.

There are 141 people in intensive care due to COVID-19, unchanged from Thursday.

The death toll in B.C. has increased by nine to 2,597. None of the nine deaths Friday occurred in Interior Health.

The ministry notes 2,137 positive tests were recorded Friday, including 569 within Interior Health.

Of those five and older eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine, 89.8 per cent have received their first dose and 83.8 per cent have received two doses. As for third doses, 43.9 per cent of British Columbians 12 and older have received them.
