Weekend for Kamloops RCMP includes drug seizures and weapons

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP responded to approximately 295 calls for service from midnight on Friday (Jan. 21) to 9 a.m. on Monday (Jan. 24, 2022). Below are some highlights from those reports.

Weapons and drugs seized in traffic stop

Fentanyl, brass knuckles, a baton, and a large amount of cash were found by RCMP following a traffic stop downtown Sunday evening.

A male driver and female passenger, the latter had a warrant for her arrest, following the traffic stop on the 700-block of Victoria Street.

The man was issued a 24-hour suspension from driving for drug impairment and the vehicle was towed. The investigation is ongoing.

Lower Sahali assault

A man was taken to hospital with head and face injuries early Saturday night after reportedly being struck repeatedly with a baton on the 700-block of Columbia Street West.

RCMP say they located the victim, but he was uncooperative.

A witness described the suspect as a man in dark clothing, approximately 5’11” tall.

Drug trafficking file

RCMP say they found a bag containing approximately one ounce of suspected fentanyl, along with paraphernalia associated to drug trafficking, during a shoplifting investigation early Sunday morning.

Officers reported to a store on the 900-block of Eighth Street in response to a shoplifting report where RCMP say a suspect trying to hide something from police.

The investigation is ongoing.
