Merritt man wanted province-wide after alleged assault

UPDATE (1:40 p.m.): Merritt RCMP announced Wednesday (Jan. 19) afternoon than Jonathan Charlie was located and arrested.

EARLIER: MERRITT, B.C. — Merritt RCMP are asking for the public’s help in locating a local man who’s wanted province-wide on an assault charge.

On Nov.11, 2021, Merritt RCMP say officers were called to a residence on Menzies Street where a woman had been assaulted. Police say Jonathan Charlie allegedly fled the scene prior to police arrival.

Charlie was charged with one count of assault on Dec. 2 and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Charlie is described as a 5’9” Indigenous man weighing approximately 150 lbs with black hair and brown eyes.
