B.C. gyms and fitness facilities can re-open on Thursday, other health orders remain in effect
VICTORIA — Gyms and fitness facilities in B.C. can re-open on Thursday (Jan. 20) with capacity limits in effect.
In a provincial COVID-19 update Tuesday (Jan. 18) afternoon, B.C. Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced that fitness facilities can resume operations, with seven square metres of spacing (2.5 by 2.5) between individuals exercising, enhanced ventilation with no fans or heaters to change the temperature, and proof of vaccination remaining in effect. Dr. Henry adds masks must always be worn, except while exercising.
Elsewhere, other health measures announced on Dec. 22 – such as event venues, bars and nightclubs and lounges that don’t serve meals being closed, and seated events operating at 50 per cent capacity – have been extended to Feb. 16.
Dr. Henry adds no changes have been made in the province’s vaccine card system and all businesses must continue to have a COVID-19 safety plan.
