Jan 17, 2022 | 6:07 AM

KAMLOOPS – More than 1,000 union workers remain on the job at the Highland Valley Copper mine west of Logan Lake today.

Following weekend talks, the United Steelworkers Local 7619 negotiators released a letter to members stating non-binding recommendations developed by the mediators, will be put to a vote to be concluded no later than Jan. 24.

Since the strike notice remains in effect, unionized workers could walk off the job immediately if the mediated recommendations are voted down.

The last contract expired Sep. 30, 2021.
