Chase Secondary School closes for one day due to staffing shortage

Jan 17, 2022 | 4:42 PM

CHASE, B.C. — Chase Secondary School is announcing a functional closure for all classes on Tuesday (Jan. 18).

In a letter to parents, the school says it does not have enough staff to supervise and instruct students, but did not give a reason for the staffing shortage.

“Please keep your children at home tomorrow unless your child(ren) has/have exceptional needs and is/are required to be at school or if you are a health care professional and cannot keep your child(ren) at home,” the letter states.

On Tuesday (Jan. 18), replacement teachers will plan what is required for subjects and classes. This time is needed to pivot to manage the shortage of staff and to determine whether the school can return to face-to-face or online learning.

The school is expected to return on Wednesday (Jan. 19) and parents will be notified by noon with details.

Anyone who must send their children to school on Tuesday is asked to contact the principal at ggartrell@sd73.bc.ca.
