KAMLOOPS — Interior Health says it will be expanding the capacity at COVID-19 immunization clinics in the region.

In a release today (Jan. 13), the health authority says it is trying to make it easier for more people to get their booster dose when they are eligible.

Throughout January, larger immunization clinics will be opening in Williams Lake, Kelowna, Nelson, Castlegar, Trail and Cranbrook. Clinics in several other communities will be extending their hours, and adding more appointments at the existing locations.

Additionally, pharmacies within Interior Health will be adding more appointments. Residents aged 18 and over should be receiving an invitation to book their appointment for a booster dose about six months after the date of their second dose.

Pregnant people 18 and over can get their booster dose eight weeks after their second dose. These individuals can call the call centre at 1-833-838-2323 and identify as pregnant to book their appointment.

Interior Health reiterates that COVID-19 vaccines are safe to receive at any point in pregnancy.

“Receiving a COVID-19 booster dose is a safe and effective way to protect yourself and your community from COVID-19,” says Dr. Sue Pollock, interim chief medical health officer for Interior Health. “With increased COVID-19 activity across the Interior, getting your booster dose is a critical step you can take to reduce your risk of hospitalization and to preserve capacity in the health care system.”

Residents are also reminded that they can drop-in at clinics to receive a first or second dose, but booster doses are by appointment only.
