Highland Valley workers issue strike notice

KAMLOOPS – Unionized workers at the Highland Valley Copper mine west of Logan Lake, could walk off the job as early as Sunday.

The United Steel Workers Union – Local 7619, issued strike notice to Teck Resources Limited Tuesday (Jan.11).

In a news release, Teck Resources says the strike notice entitles the union to begin strike action following a 72-hour strike notice period and 48 hours after the mediator reports to the Labour Relations Board. Teck says the two sides are scheduled to sit down with mediators Friday.

The union represents 1,048 workers. The last collective agreement expired September 30, 2021.
