Blazers acquire 18-year-old forward in trade with the Oil Kings
KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers announced Saturday (Jan. 8) that they’ve acquire 18-year-old forward Kobe Verbicky from the Edmonton Oil Kings in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2022 Western Hockey League (WHL) Prospects Draft.
Verbicky was selected by the Oil Kings in the second round of the 2018 WHL Prospects Draft. After not playing during the 2020-21 season, Verbicky has scored two goals and two assists in 24 games for the Oil Kings in 2021-22.
“We are excited to have had the opportunity to acquire Kobe,” Blazers General Manager Shaun Clouston says. “Kobe is a great skater with offensive upside that will add depth to our strong group of 2003-born players.”
The Blazers say Verbicky will join the team this week. The Blazers are scheduled to visit the Portland Winterhawks on Wednesday (Jan. 12), COVID-19 protocols permitting.
