Cotter loses narrowly in ‘B’ final, needs afternoon win to make playoffs
KAMLOOPS — Sports are games of inches, and the Jim Cotter rink learned that the hard way on Friday.
In its ‘B’ final in the morning, the Cotter and Jeff Richard matchup entered the 10th end tied 6-6 with Richard holding the hammer. All skip Brent Pierce need was a draw to the button for the win, but it was a little heavy, putting his blue rock and Cotter’s red rock narrowly close to the button.
After officials measured for two minutes, it was determined the Richard rock was centimetres closer, giving them a 7-6 win in the ‘B’ final and forcing Cotter down to the ‘C’ final, which goes at 2 p.m.
“Yeah, you’re either playing or not playing at 2 p.m.,” said Cotter talking about the final shot. “It was a good game. We probably came out a little bit flat I thought, so we got to definitely pick it up for next game.”
