Betty White Day
Following Betty White’s death at 99, her hometown of Oak Park, Illinois, will celebrate Betty White Day annually on her birthday, January 17th. As part of the memorialization, Oak Park businesses have created “Betty White Specials.”
Mickey’s plans to sell a meal made up of Betty White’s favorite foods, including a hot dog, fries, and diet coke. White told People in 2012 that “hot dogs and Red Vines and potato chips and French fries” were some of her favorite foods.
Turano Bakery will be making “a giant birthday cake” for what would have been White’s 100th birthday. Betty White Day will also feature a mural contest, and the winner’s design will be painted downtown.
White was born in Oak Park in 1922, though her family later relocated to California. She returned to Oak Park for years after she left.
