Emergency department at Merritt hospital temporarily closed due to limited physician availability

MERRITT — Interior Health says ‘unforeseen limited physician availability’ has led to the temporary closure of the emergency department at the Merritt hospital this evening (Dec. 24).

The health authority says the Nicola Valley Hospital’s emergency department will re-open at 8 a.m tomorrow (Dec. 25).

Residents are being told to still call 9-1-1 in the event of an emergency, and utilize the emergency departments at either Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, or Kelowna General Hospital.

In a release, Interior Health apologizes for the interruption in service.
