Harper Mountain opens for winter season after weekend snowfall

KAMLOOPS — Another season has begun at Harper Mountain, and if pre-season ticket sales and snowfall levels are any indication, it’s going to be a good one.

“With all the new snow – what more could a ski resort want?” Harper Mountain Owner and Operator Norm Daburger tells CFJC Today.

The mountain is well versed in pandemic operations and is hopeful visitors who got into snow sports during last year’s recreation surge will come back.

“Every year is a little bit different, and this certainly is no exception to that,” Daburger says, “We’re not 100 per cent sure what’s going to happen but generally for us and the resort if we have great conditions, then we have great customers.”

Harper Mountain also had to put in extra planning for staffing. Ordinarily they’d had plenty of international hires coming in for the ski season, but this year Daburger says they’ve had to rely on mostly locals.

“We normally bring in several foreign workers with visas and this year they all had trouble getting visas, but we’re lucky – we’re staffed up with locals – generally locals and Canadian Nationals,” he says. “So yeah, we’re lucky. You know what we’ll just keep our fingers crossed that everything keeps going smooth.”

Daburger says the resort is fully open and will be operating throughout the holidays (closed Dec. 25). For full hours and ticket rates, click here to access Harper’s website.

There’s plenty of snow at the hill already for those looking to get in a run on the slopes, try out the tube park, or just sit and enjoy the ambience by the fire – and with more snow in the forecast this week, Harper Mountain has been set up for a solid start to the season.
