KAMLOOPS — A second straight loss in a back-and-forth game that ended with a pair of empty net goals has the Kamloops Blazers losing four of five heading into the Western Hockey League (WHL) holiday break.

Saturday night (Dec. 18) against the Kelowna Rockets, the Blazers trailed 2-1 after a pair of goals from Rockets’ 16-year-old forward Andrew Cristall. A power play bomb from Connor Levis on the left circle got the Blazers on the board.

The Blazers took the lead halfway through the second, thanks to Logan Bairos’ first of the season and co-captain Quinn Schmiemann scoring his eighth. However, Rilen Kovacevic sped behind the Blazers blueline to tie it 3-3 late in the second.

After the Blazers and Rockets traded goals in the third period, it was a goal from Tyson Feist between the hashmarks put the Rockets up for good en route to a 7-4 win.

The Blazers fall to 19-8-0 on the season, but still sit first in the WHL B.C. Division with 38 points in 27 games. They trail the Everett Silvertips by five points with two games in hand for top seed in the Western Conference.

The Blazers host the Kelowna Rockets on Dec. 28 at the Sandman Centre after the holiday break.
