B.C records 753 new COVID-19 cases Thursday, active cases jump to 3,878

VICTORIA — The province is reporting a jump in COVID-19 cases today, with 753 new cases identified in the last 24 hours.

The new daily figure is 234 cases higher than what was recorded on Wednesday (519). Additionally, active cases shot up to 3,878, which is an increase of 707 from yesterday.

Of the active cases, 184 people in hospital (down by 7) and 70 individuals are in intensive care (down by 11).

The province adds there have been 135 cases of the Omicron variant of concern identified in B.C. Five of those variant cases have been reported within Interior Health.

There have been no new health-care facility outbreaks, and the outbreak at Ponderosa Lodge in Kamloops has also been declared over. And in the past 24 hours, three new virus-related deaths have been reported, none of which occurred in Interior Health.

The new/active cases include:

  • 232 new cases in Fraser Health. Total active cases: 1,091
  • 240 new cases in Vancouver Coastal Health. Total active cases: 999
  • 99 new cases in Interior Health. Total active cases: 644
  • 45 new cases in Northern Health. Total active cases: 238
  • 137 new cases in Island Health. Total active cases: 905
  • no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada. Total active cases: one

As of Thursday, 86.8 per cent of eligible people five and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 82.5 per cent have received their second dose.

In addition, 91.6 per cent of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, 88.7 per cent received their second dose and 14 per cent have received a third dose.
