KAMLOOPS — The Centre for Seniors Information is getting ready to give out more than 600 Secret Santa gifts to seniors in need.

Inside each bag is $50 worth of personal hygiene items, comfort items such as slippers and blankets, and Christmas treats.

Many of the recipients are known to spend the holidays alone.

“Most of the deliveries would take weeks to do because when you get there you’d have to hang out for a couple of hours, talk, and visit a lot of the times,” Centre for Seniors Information Executive Director Brandi Allen explained. “I was the only person they would see for months, if not the only person they would see that year for a visit.”

Kamloops residents are invited to nominate a senior in their community who they believe would benefit from receiving a Christmas gift.

Sponsoring a senior only costs a $20 donation.

“We partner with London Drugs, so if you head down to London Drugs, you’ll see they have a tree up that have tags on it,” Allen continued. “You pull a tag off the tree; it will have the name of a senior as well as their wish list for this Christmas. You can also drop donations off at the Activity Centre in Brock, and we take monetary donations from people that can’t get out.”
