NANAIMO — Police responded to reports of shots fired in front of a home on View St. in south Nanaimo late Saturday night.

When officers arrived on scene around 9:15 p.m. on Saturday, Dec 11., they found a man suffering from apparent gun shot wounds.

He was transported to NRGH with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Police said a vehicle was seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed.

A short time later, Nanaimo Fire Rescue Crews were called to a vehicle fire in the 700 block of Nicol Street.

“Investigators believe the vehicle fire is associated to the incident and that this was a targeted shooting,” Cst. Gary O’Brien said in a news release.

The shooter involved has not been located and the victim remains in hospital.

“Given the evidence gathered to date, police do not believe there is any further risk to the public,” O’Brien added.

Numerous officers responded to the shooting including, Police Dog Services, Emergency Response Team members and Forensics.

Police are asking anyone who may have information on this incident, including dash cam video, to call the Nanaimo RCMP.

The south Nanaimo incident marked the second case of gunfire in the city in the same week, with a car hit with bullets at a north Nanaimo apartment complex early Wednesday morning.

Nobody was injured in connection with the incident just off Uplands Dr. involving multiple vehicles hitting the parked vehicle.
