Wildlights kicks off at BC Wildlife Park after brief hiatus

KAMLOOPS — Twenty-Three Days of Christmas at the BC Wildlife Park kicks off on Friday night (Dec. 10) with Wildlights.

After cancelling Wildlights 2020 due to COVID-19 event restrictions, the event is back for its 24th year

Visitors can enjoy endless light displays, the 250 ft. tunnel of lights, and a 20 ft. tall outdoor light tree. They can tour the park on the wildlife express, gather around fire pits, and enjoy hot chocolate and delicious treats.

This year, the event has some exciting new additions.

“We did a little area near the raccoons — and most people are familiar where the racoons are in the park, a little magical forest area,” BC Wildlife Park Executive Director Glenn Grant said. “And we will have the Kamloops Princess Party here every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evening.”

Grab a hot chocolate and a snack at the park and warm up your toeas at one of 10 cozy fire pits. More than a million colourful lights will illuminate the Wildlife Park every night from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., until Jan. 3 — excluding Christmas Day.

“The elk area is lit up. Bears are sound asleep so you’re not going to see any bears,” Grant continued. “And that’s the reason why we opened at 4 p.m. In the past, we’ve always opened at 5 p.m. But if people do want to see a little bit of the animals, come a little bit earlier before the lights get turned on at 5 o’clock.”

The BC Wildlife Park is expecting more than 25,000 people to visit Wildlights over the next month.

It will also be streamed virtually. To learn more, click here. The event is outdoors, and vaccine verification is not required.
