Kamloops RCMP warns of doorstep package thieves during holiday season

KAMLOOPS β€” As delivery trucks make their way through Kamloops ahead of the holiday season, Kamloops RCMP are reminding residents to take steps to prevent porch pirates.

RCMP say with the increase in online shopping and shipping, so too comes the chance of thieves targeting doorsteps and mailboxes.

β€œThe best way to prevent the disappointment that comes with a stolen gift is to recognize the risk of porch pirates and take steps to protect your purchases,” Cpl. Dana Napier says.

Tips to help keep porch pirates away include:

  • tracking packages
  • asking a neighbour to keep an eye out
  • requesting that a signature be required
  • sending packages to your workplace or a storefront
  • installing a surveillance system, such as doorbell cameras
  • signing up for online accounts with Canada Post or third-party locations that can accept packages on your behalf
  • reporting stolen packages to police

Anyone who sees suspicious activity in their neighbourhood, or is a victim of theft, is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP.
