Five more Omicron cases identified, 437 new COVID-19 cases for Friday

KAMLOOPS — B.C. reports 10 total cases of the Omicron variant of concern, up by five since the last update on Tuesday (Dec. 7) although it hasn’t been detected in Interior Health.

In total, B.C. reports 437 new COVID-19 cases for Friday (Dec. 10), with 93 of them in Interior Health.

Active cases increased again to 2,994 in the province (up by 79 from Thursday) and slightly decreased to 575 in Interior Health (down by one). Of the provincial active cases, 211 patients are in hospital (down by nine), with 72 of them in intensive care (down by one).

Elsewhere, there were 105 cases reported in Fraser Health (871 active), 127 in Island Health (664), 90 in Vancouver Coastal Health (589), and 22 in Northern Health (243). No new cases were reported from people who reside outside of Canada, although that active count remains at two.

Three new deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, none in Interior Health, for a provincial total of 2,381.

No new healthcare facility outbreaks were declared. There are four active outbreaks, including Ponderosa Lodge in Kamloops.

As of Friday, 86 per cent (4,288,204) of eligible people five and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, while 82.2 per cent (4,097,320) have received their second.
