Village of Lytton receives $1 million grant for wildfire recovery
LYTTON, B.C. — The B.C. government is giving the Village of Lytton a $1 million grant to support its economic recovery following the late-June wildfire that destroyed the community.
From the funding, $500,000 will support Lytton in its efforts to restart the local economy and $500,000 will be for operational activities, meaning the village can continue to pay its staff who are leading wildfire recovery in the community.
“Our village was devastated by this past summer’s wildfire, but our spirits remain strong,” Lytton Mayor Jan Polderman says. “We are hoping to rebuild as soon as possible, and this grant will help us with our immediate critical needs.”
The two liaisons between the province and village – Parliamentary Secretary of Emergency Preparedness Jennifer Rice and Parliamentary Secretary of Rural Development Roly Russell – will participate in a virtual town hall held by the village on Thursday (Dec. 9).
