Five total Omicron cases identified in B.C., province reports 326 new cases

KAMLOOPS — Five cases of the Omicron variant of concern have been confirmed in B.C., three in Vancouver Coastal Health and two in Fraser Health. The province says all five cases are related to international travel.

For Tuesday (Dec. 7), B.C. reports 326 new COVID-19 cases, with 88 of them in Interior Health.

Active cases decreased to 2,814 in the province (down by 62 from Monday) but slightly increased to 561 in Interior Health (up by two). Of the provincial active cases, 242 patients are in hospital (up by one), with 82 of them in intensive care (down by seven).

Elsewhere, there were 92 cases reported in Fraser Health (930 active), 71 in Island Health (591), 53 in Vancouver Coastal Health (471), and 22 in Northern Health (261).

One new death in Northern Health was reported in the last 24 hours for a provincial total of 2,363.

No new healthcare facility outbreaks were declared. There are five active outbreaks, including Ponderosa Lodge in Kamloops.

As of Tuesday, 85.6 per cent (4,267,612) of eligible people five and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, while 82 per cent (4,088,609) have received their second.
