Farnworth to visit flood damaged Merritt today

UPDATE (8:30 p.m.): Due to poor flight conditions, Farnworth is not able to visit Merritt today, but is expected to visit later this week.

EARLIER: MERRITT – The Minister of Public Safety is expected to tour devastated areas of Merritt today (Dec. 7). Mike Farnworth is scheduled to visit the region to get a close look at the damage caused by massive flooding last month.

Some parts of Merritt were destroyed when the Coldwater River jumped its banks and cut a new path through parts of the community.

Residents were evacuated when homes and key pieces of infrastructure were damaged by floodwaters. Many residents were only able to return to their properties over the weekend.

Fraser Nicola MLA Jackie Tegart called on Farnworth and Transportation Minister Rob Fleming to visit Merritt and the surrounding area last week.
