KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Hospice’s “Celebrate a Life” fundraiser is back again for its first time since the pandemic started.

Hospice has a small craft fair set up at Northills Mall on the North Shore. Local crafters have put together unique items like knitted clothing, fishing nets, and Christmas decor.

There is a $5 raffle that includes special prizes such as a toaster oven and a hand-crafted quilt. This year, the memory tree is back.

“Celebrate a Life is a major event for Kamloops Hospice. We’ve been doing this memory tree for over 30 years where a loved one comes and changes the lightbulb from white to red in honour of their loved ones,” explained Dorothy Woodward, long-time volunteer at Kamloops Hospice. “They can leave a message and it’s just a really nice remembrance, especially at Christmas time.’

All proceeds from the event go toward Kamloops Hospice. Last year’s event was held virtually because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The craft fair raised $7,000. Normally, the event pulls in around $20,000.

“I think it’s a really important event for people to be able to recognize their loved ones at this time of year,” Woodward continued. “We’ve had so many crafters we’re really fortunate of all the crafters that come and donate to us. We’re hoping to raise funds this year for groceries for a year. Our goal is over $20,000.”

The booth is set up Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. It will run until Dec. 22.
