Active COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations decrease in B.C.

KAMLOOPS — B.C. reported 946 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend (Dec. 3 to 6), with 211 of them in Interior Health.

Active cases decreased to 2,876 in the province (down by 195 since Dec. 3) and 559 in Interior Health (down by 26). Of the provincial active cases, 241 patients are in hospital (down by 35), with 89 of them in intensive care (down by six).

Elsewhere, 285 new cases were reported in Fraser Health (927 active), 197 in Island Health (624), 138 in Vancouver Coastal Health (424), and 115 in Northern Health (342).

The three-day breakdown is as follows:

  • Dec. 3-4: 351 new cases
  • Dec. 4-5: 311 new cases
  • Dec. 5-6: 284 new cases

Eleven new deaths have been reported in the last 72 hours, two of them in Interior Health, for a provincial total of 2,362.

No new healthcare facility outbreaks were declared. There are five active outbreaks, including Ponderosa Lodge in Kamloops.

As of Monday, 85.5 per cent (4,261,317) of eligible people five and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, while 82 per cent (4,085,935) have received their second.
