Snow removal efforts continuing overnight in Kamloops, crews won’t hit smaller roads until Sunday

KAMLOOPS — Snow removal efforts started at 5 a.m. on Saturday (Dec. 4) in the City of Kamloops and will continue overnight until Sunday.

Kamloops’ Streets and Environmental Service Manager Glen Farrow says there’s risk for drivers within the city when facing icy and snowy stretches, and the city encourages the public to have the appropriate winter tires and to slow down.

Farrow says the city’s staff and fleet have nine zones – which one piece of equipment in each zone – to sand and salt the slippery sections. He says during snow, and four hours after it concludes, their focus is on Kamloops’ main roads: Aberdeen Drive, Pacific Way, Hugh Allan Drive, Columbia Street, and Tranquille Road.

“From there, we move to the collectors and bus routes,” Farrow told CFJC Today. “The service level with that is resolving those within 16 hours after the event. On local roads, you should not expect our equipment on Saturday at all. It’s more of a Sunday operation.”
