Interior Health records 101 new COVID-19 cases, increase in active case count

VICTORIA — The province is reporting 368 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, with 101 of those new cases identified in Interior Health.

In an update from the Ministry of Health today (Dec. 2), the province says there are now 3,020 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C (up by 84). Of the active cases, 284 people are in hospital (down by 17), and 97 are in intensive care (down by one).

Interior Health’s active case count grew by 41 since yesterday (Dec. 1), for a current total of 578.

The new/active cases include:

* 90 new cases in Fraser Health (Total active cases: 1,003)

* 48 new cases in Vancouver Coastal Health (Total active cases: 485)

* 101 new cases in Interior Health (Total active cases: 578)

* 40 new cases in Northern Health (Total active cases: 351)

* 88 new cases in Island Health (Total active cases: 602)

* one new case of people who reside outside of Canada (Total active cases: one)

In the past 24 hours, five new deaths have been reported, for an overall total of 2,345. The deaths took place in Fraser Health, and within Northern Health.

There have been no new health-care facility outbreaks, for a total of five facilities with ongoing outbreaks within Fraser Health, Northern Health and Vancouver Coastal Health. Though Interior Health has stated it is in the process of declaring a COVID-19 outbreak at Ponderosa assisted living facility in downtown Kamloops.

As of Thursday, 85 per cent (4,234,504) of eligible people five and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 81.8 per cent (4,076,233) have received their second dose.
